Exercise genetics: seeking clarity from noise
نویسندگان
چکیده
The potential of recent advances in genetics research to supplement elite sport decision-making has potentially extensive implications, but remains highly controversial. One potential application is the use of genetic information to enhance exercise prescription, thereby positively influencing athletic performance and public health domains. Recent research suggests that this is both feasible and potentially beneficial. 2 However, such an effective use of genetic information requires a clear understanding of the mechanism by which each reported single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) mediates physical performance. In the absence of such a clear, mechanistic explanation, we are left with vague associations without causative roots. While uncovering gene associations is necessary, it is not sufficient to presume causation. Given the complex entangled routes through which genes and environment interact to express phenotype, superficial association-based logical inferences are likely to be misleading.

Treadmill exercise alleviates prenatal noise stress-induced impairment of spatial learning ability through enhancing hippocampal neurogenesis in rat pups
Stress alters brain cell properties and then disturbs cognitive processes, such as learning and memory. In this study, we investigated the effect of postnatal treadmill exercise on hippocampal neurogenesis and spatial learning ability of rat pups following prenatal noise stress. The impact of exercise intensity (mild-intensity exercise vs heavy-intensity exercise) was also compared. The pregnan...

BACKGROUND Healthcare practitioners should provide patients with information regarding their clinical conditions. Patients should also feel free to seek clarity on information provided. However, not all patients seek this clarity. OBJECTIVES To explore the reasons inpatients gave for not seeking clarity on information that was received but not understood. METHODS This was a qualitative arm ...

متن کاملRisk: a concept analysis.
TOPIC Concept analysis of risk. PURPOSE To analyze the concept risk and provide a new definition of risk. SOURCES Published literature. CONCLUSIONS A new definition of risk that emerged from this concept analysis can provide clarity and direction for future research. Nurse researchers can look to this definition to expand what is known about health-seeking behaviors as opposed to "risk" b...
